Of those who perished on that day 343 were firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, 55 military personnel at the Pentagon and 40 brave souls aboard United Flight 93.Īs Sept 11 nears and on behalf of the City of Billings, I wish to sincerely thank the many volunteers, various and numerous board members and City Employees who give of their time and devotion to this community in order to keep us functioning in a safe, successful and productive manner. We were ONLY united Americans sharing a common sadness, anger, fear and cause. As the anniversary of that infamous day approaches let us always remember a day not only of tremendous tragedy but of a day in which we were united in a common cause regardless of political affiliation.
